In the middle of the baroque park of Samuel von Brukenthal’s summer residence in Avrig (German name Freck), modern guest rooms, VIP rooms and an apartment in the orangery have been furnished for you. The palace’s extensive baroque garden, the orangery, a restaurant, the historic café, the adjacent new leisure facility “Corabia Piratilor”, a glass museum and much more will make your stay here an experience.
Guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast on the terrace in the baroque garden, surrounded by flowers and blossoming shrubs, or in the restaurant. The highlight of the estate is the baroque castle. It is located on a 12-meter-high terrace above the Olttal valley, at the highest point of Avrig. The ensemble consists of a main building with three wings, adjoined by two outbuildings. As is customary in Transylvania, the U-shaped floor plan is not oriented towards the street, but towards the park.
If you arrive by car, there is a parking lot directly behind the orangery.
In 1777, Baron Samuel von Brukenthal became Governor of Transylvania and was the only Sas (Saxon) in history to be elevated to such an important position by Empress Maria Teresia of Austria. The former summer residence of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal awoke from its slumber in 2011 and was renovated with Brukenthal’s ideas and visions in mind and then returned to the public. This historic Baroque jewel, where history, elegance and sophistication combine in a romantic dance with nature, is the perfect venue for your events where dreams come true!
Brukenthal Palace in Avrig is the dominant building of the summer residence of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, a wonderful and historic place that was once considered the Eden of Transylvania and has the shape of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, because it was designed by the same architect at the time, The palace is a miniature, seven times smaller than the original.
Brukenthal Palace is located above the Olt Valley, at the highest point of Avrig (Freck in German).
